Saquon Barkley reportedly won't be traded after rough start by Eagles

The Philadelphia Eagles find themselves in an unusual position at the midway point of the 2026 NFL season: Trade deadline sellers. With the team sitting at 2-5 and quarterback Jalen Hurts out for possibly the entire season, the Eagles are reportedly entertaining offers for players.

One player, however, who reportedly won’t be traded is running back Saquon Barkley. The 29-year-old — who still has two years and roughly $35 million left on his contract — is expected to stick around, as the Eagles believe they can contend next season once Hurts is back, per ESPN.

The news comes as Barkley is in the midst of a frustrating season. Injuries have already caused him to miss some games and see extremely limited snaps in others. Through five games, he has just 244 rushing yards and one touchdown, a far cry from his production in his first two seasons with the Eagles.

Though Barkley played in just 10 snaps in Week 7 due to hamstring and back issues, he’s expected to suit up for the Eagles against the Washington Commanders in Week 8.

While Barkley’s value is lower than expected at the moment, he’s proven to be an extremely dangerous runner when healthy. In his first season with the Eagles in 2024, Barkley eclipsed the 2,000-yard mark as a rusher, something only eight other players have accomplished in the history of the NFL.

Though Barkley didn’t repeat that performance, he still managed to go for over 1,100 rushing yards last season.

With Barkley reportedly off the market, all eyes will turn to Indianapolis Colts running back Jonathan Taylor. While it was initially unclear whether the team would make Taylor available, the Colts are reportedly open to making a deal.

The 27-year-old Taylor would bring back quite the haul in a possible deal. After leading the NFL in rushing touchdowns last season, Taylor is once again on pace to lead the league in that stat. Through seven games, he already has eight rushing scores.

While Taylor has battled injuries in the past, he’s been fantastic over the past two-and-a-half seasons. In 2024, he reached the 1,400-yard mark despite missing three games. Last year, Taylor rushed for 1,585 yards.

The star rusher is off to another strong start in 2026, and has 587 rushing yards in seven games. That figure ranks fifth among running backs this season.
