Bold quarterback predictions in NFL Week 8: Dak Prescott, Jared Goff & more

· Yahoo Sports

Touchdown passes look wonderfully democratic on the stat sheet.  A perfect throw through traffic counts exactly the same as a tight end wandering unattended into the end zone. NFL quarterbacks understand this arrangement better than anyone.  Week 8 offers opportunities to exploit it – and one defense prepared to make every completion feel expensive.

Arizona’s trouble generating pressure creates room for passing touchdowns to pile up.  Minnesota presents the opposite problem, forcing hurried decisions against coverage that has punished opposing passers.  And Washington can turn its quarterback loose against a Philadelphia defense struggling to finish the rush, making his legs an essential part of the offense.

Let’s make the defenses answer.

Dak Prescott throws 5+ touchdown passes against the Cardinals

Arizona gives quarterbacks too much of everything: time, room downfield, and opportunities to finish drives.  The Cardinals have surrendered 17 touchdown passes and allowed 8.5 yards per attempt, while their 31.8% pressure rate gives Prescott room to find the right matchup.

CeeDee Lamb commands attention; George Pickens supplies another scoring threat if his shoulder and hamstring permit his usual involvement.  Javonte Williams can hold defenders near the line before Prescott throws behind them, turning balanced possessions into passing finishes.  Prescott threw three touchdowns Monday.  Against this coverage, Dallas keeps the scoring decisions in his hands – and five drives end with a touchdown pass.

Jared Goff throws 3+ interceptions against the Vikings

Goff brings 14 touchdown passes and zero interceptions into a matchup with Brian Flores.  Minnesota brings a defense that has allowed three touchdown passes while collecting seven interceptions and generating pressure on 48.8% of opposing dropbacks.  Goff can punish a blitz when he identifies the answer; Flores can make that answer arrive a fraction too late.

Detroit’s line isn’t suddenly broken – Cade Mays is off the injury report, and Penei Sewell’s Wednesday absence was for rest – but Amon-Ra St. Brown and Jahmyr Gibbs missing practice adds uncertainty around the quick outlets.  Even if both play, Minnesota can crowd those answers and force contested throws.  One disrupted route, one hurried release, and one forced attempt turn spotless ball security into a three-pick afternoon.

Jayden Daniels rushes for 125+ yards against the Eagles

Washington should make Daniels’ legs a central part of Sunday night’s offense.  Terry McLaurin’s season-ending injury narrows the passing menu, while Philadelphia ranks last in quick-pressure rate (8.9%) and sack rate (3.2%), giving Daniels opportunities to find escape lanes before the pocket collapses.  Keepers can create rushing chances deliberately; scrambles can supply the explosives.  Daniels ran for 103 yards against the Giants before the 49ers restricted him to 10, illustrating how much containment matters.

Philadelphia has uncertainty there: Jihaad Campbell missed Wednesday’s practice, and several edge defenders were limited.  Daniels practiced fully despite his left-elbow designation.  With Laremy Tunsil still missing, Washington can move the launch point and attack space – until one broken containment assignment sends Daniels past 125.
