· Yahoo Sports
The Brooklyn Nets (0-4) were hoping to finally end the wait for their first win of the 2026-27 NBA season, especially after playing in two games that they reasonable could have won if a few plays went their way. Brooklyn had one of their toughest matchups of the season at the Boston Celtics (3-1), but the Nets weren't able to close the deal in the end.

The Netslost to the Celtics on Tuesday 125-124 in overtime due to a few plays not going their way in the extra five minutes after almost losing the game in regulation. Forward Michael Porter Jr. finished the game with 27 points and 12 rebounds while forward Julius Randle had 24 points and nine rebounds in his effort to keep the team in the game before he fouled out.
The Celtics were playing on the second night of a back-to-back, but forward Jayson Tatum was able to keep his team in it with 40 points and eight assists, including the buzzer-beating game-winner. At the end of the game, the Nets did all they could to get their first win on the road against a tough Celtics team, but they're still unable to get over the hump.
Here are three Nets takeaways from Tuesday's overtime loss to the Celtics:
Julius Randle Shows Ability To Do A Little Bit Of Everything
Randle has already shown that he has the ability to affect every game that he plays in with his offensive capabilities to get to any of his sweet spots on the floor along with using his passing to expose defensive mistakes. However, since arriving in Brooklyn, Randle has displayed his ability to use his strength to impact the rebounding phase of the game and was even able to be impactful on the defensive end at times.
Nolan Traore Impresses In First Start Of The Season
Traore made his first start of the season with head coach Jordi Fernandez electing to go with the second-year guard in the starting lineup instead of Keon Ellis and he didn't disappoint. Granted, Traore dealt with some cramping that isn't expected to be anything long-term, his ability to get to the rim and score at all three levels was impressive to see against a tough Celtics team.
Mikel Brown Jr. Made A Huge Mistake, But Was Vital
Brown had been under a minutes restriction heading into this game, but with him not playing since Saturday, Fernandez explained after the game that was the reason the rookie was able to play more in Boston. Brown struggled with his shooting overall, but he also was the reason that the Nets were able to get back into the game in the fourth quarter and overtime, despite him making a rookie mistake to end the extra period. Brown looks like he's ready for more minutes.
