Qualifying teams were set by the MHSAA playoff formula which gives points for wins, more points for wins over higher-division teams, and also factors in opponents records.
There are eight divisions of 11-player football and 8-player football has two divisions.
In Division 3, Zeeland West (7-2) will host Niles (4-5) in the first round of the playoffs.
The other side of that district is Battle Creek Harper Creek (6-3), hosting Battle Creek Central (5-4).
Zeeland East (5-4) will play at St. Joseph (7-2) in the first round in another Division 3 district.
The other side of that bracket is Coldwater (6-3) at Middleville (6-3).
In Division 8, Saugatuck (6-3) will play at Springport (8-1) in the first round.
The other side of their district has Vermontville Maple Valley at Decatur.
Saugatuck is making the playoff for the third time in four years and 16th overall.
In other games of area interest, Unity Christian (5-4) will host Spring Lake (5-4). Muskegon (4-5) will face Byron Center (7-2).
The other Holland-area teams did not qualify. West Ottawa finished 2-7, Holland was 4-5, Holland Christian was 3-6, Hamilton was 3-6 and Fennville was 6-3 in 8-player but is ineligible to make the playoffs because their school size is to large for 8-player. The Blackhawks might have been a playoff team if they were eligible.
