The Tampa Bay Rays were unsuccessful in Game 1 of the World Series as they dropped a 3-2 decision to the Milwaukee Brewers. However, the Rays rallied with a run in the top of the ninth inning and had two runners on base when their rally came to an end.

Despite the loss, Rays speedy left fielder Chandler Simpson thought his team acquitted itself well while playing on the road. The Brewers put an early run on the board in the first inning and the game could have gotten away from the Rays at that point, but the Rays kept their composure and would not let that happen.

“We responded very well,” Simpson said, per his interview with Tom Verducci of Fox Sports. “It was our first time in that environment and kind of got punched in the mouth in the first inning but scrapped away some good ABs. We tried to make things happen on the base paths and make the pitcher uncomfortable. We kind of got unlucky yesterday and we will have to pick our spots better.”

The Rays had multiple runners thrown out on the bases by Milwaukee catcher William Contreras.

To that end, Simpson and the Rays got off to an excellent start in Game 2. Simpson knocked in the opening run in the top of the first inning with a single to left field. They were able to add to that lead on an RBI single by Junior Caminero and a two-run home run by Liam Hicks.

The Rays are hoping to square the series with staff ace Drew Rasmussen on the mound. Games 3, 4 and 5 (if necessary) will be played at the Tropicana Dome
