The 38-year-old forward will sign a pro-rated contract, meaning the Stars will pay Perron only a portion of the contract based on the time he spends on the roster.
He enters his 20th season in the NHL and is coming off a season split between two clubs, where he totaled 25 points in 45 games with the Ottawa Senators before being traded to the Detroit Red Wings.
His time in Detroit was limited, as he appeared in just 16 games and finished with three goals and no assists. Still, Perron's recent track record suggests there may be more left in the tank.
As recently as the 2023-24 season, he was a 45-plus point player, a campaign that came in the first of his stints with the Red Wings.
Provided he stays healthy, the veteran could still carry 30-point upside, making the low-cost, short-term commitment a modest-risk addition for a Dallas team looking to bolster its forward depth.
