On Friday at Happy State Bank Stadium, Canyon squares off against West Plains for the Battle of the Boss Hog rivalry. Both teams enter the contest with 1-0 records in District 2-4A Division I play, while Canyon holds a 5-1 overall record with the Eagles' only loss coming to Tascosa by one point.
West Plains has dropped three games, but two of those losses came against defending state champions Wall and Stephenville, along with a one-point defeat at the hands of Lubbock-Cooper Liberty.
Tascosa welcomes Monterey to Dick Bivins Stadium on Thursday night while Palo Duro meets Abilene Wylie in Amarillo on Friday. Both games should be important district contests, as the Rebels could get another step closer to securing a playoff berth while the Dons have the inside track to winning District 2-5A Division II title again after starting 3-0 in league play.
