What are the Rays' stadium roof ground rules for Tropicana Field?

The Tampa Bay Rays are still in the 2026 MLB playoffs, and with that comes the fact that they play in Tropicana Field, a stadium with a roof. And that means that a batted ball could make contact with the roof.

So what are the rules if a ball hits the roof in Tampa? We have the answers for you, especially after a batted ball from the New York Yankees' Spencer Jones nailed the roof for an out.

There are two rings that are around the top of the roof: The "A" ring (which is at the center of the roof) and the "B" (which is bigger and surrounds the A ring). If a ball hits the "A" ring, the ball is in play. If it's fair and hits the "B" ring, the ball is also in play.

But there's also the "C" and "D" rings that are even bigger and are around the "B" ring. If a fair ball hits those rings, the ball is declared a home run.

Got all that? Now you know.
