Nick Sirianni’s kicking decision costs Eagles unthinkable loss vs. Jaguars in London
· Yahoo Sports
The NFL sent the Jacksonville Jaguars and Philadelphia Eagles to London in Week 5. The teams played a messy game that featured 20 penalties, but the ending was a thrill. The two teams traded field goals in the final seconds before the Jaguars came out on top, 19-17.

The Eagles took the lead with a 48-yard field goal by Jake Elliott with just eight seconds remaining in the game. There was really only one way for the Jaguars to win the game at that point. They needed a big kick return. And the Eagles kicked it right to them. Ameer Abdullah ran it back 53 yards to the Eagles’ 39-yard line. With one second left on the clock Cam Little nailed a 57-yarder for the walk-off win in the Jaguars’ second home.

As Dave Pasch, Jason Kelce and Kurt Warner discussed on the NFL Network broadcast, the Eagles should have kicked the ball out of bounds. With no timeouts the Jaguars would have had to run a long play down the sideline to even have a chance at getting the ball into scoring possession with the clock stopped. The decision to kick it inbounds cost them the game.
Of course, it wasn’t the only thing to cost them the game. The Eagles came into the game averaging 18.8 points a game. They scored 24 in each of their first two games. Over their last three losses they have scored 7, 20 and 17.
The Eagles spent most of the game punting. They scored touchdowns on both possessions in the second quarter on Sunday, but struggled the rest of the day. They only had 13 first downs and gained just 232 total yards. Down to their third running back, they gained just 22 yards on the ground.
Something is going to have to change in Philadelphia.
