Max Verstappen delivered a commanding performance Sunday, winning the 2026 Singapore Grand Prix and capturing his first victory at the Marina Bay Street Circuit. The Red Bull driver controlled the race from start to finish, defeating Ferrari’s Charles Leclerc by 7.335 seconds to secure his 73rd career Formula 1 victory.

The victory came on Verstappen’s 250th Grand Prix start, making the occasion even more memorable for the four-time world champion.

Strong Start Sets the Tone

Starting from pole position, Verstappen faced immediate pressure from Leclerc when the lights went out. The Ferrari driver made a strong launch, but Verstappen defended the inside line into the first corner and maintained the lead.

From there, Verstappen began building an advantage while carefully managing his tires around Singapore’s demanding street circuit. The race required precision, patience and concentration, with the tight corners and barriers leaving little room for mistakes.

Red Bull executed a successful one-stop strategy, helping Verstappen maintain control through two Virtual Safety Car periods. Despite some radio communication issues, the team kept its driver informed through pit boards and managed the race effectively.

Leclerc attempted to close the gap during the final laps, but Verstappen had enough pace to protect his advantage and cross the finish line comfortably in first place.

Leclerc and Antonelli Complete the Podium

Leclerc finished second, 7.335 seconds behind Verstappen, giving Ferrari a strong result in Singapore. Mercedes’ Kimi Antonelli claimed third place, finishing 24.573 seconds behind the winner.

Antonelli’s podium was particularly important in the championship battle. The young Italian extended his lead over Mercedes teammate George Russell to 102 points, putting himself in position to potentially clinch the world championship at the upcoming United States Grand Prix in Austin.

McLaren’s Lando Norris finished fourth, followed by teammate Oscar Piastri in fifth. Lewis Hamilton finished sixth for Ferrari, while Liam Lawson and Nico Hulkenberg secured seventh and eighth.

Verstappen Builds Momentum

Verstappen’s victory strengthens his position in the drivers’ standings and gives Red Bull valuable momentum heading into the remaining races. Although Antonelli remains the championship favorite, Verstappen’s recent performances show that he can still challenge the front-runners.

For Verstappen, finally conquering Singapore adds another major achievement to his career. After years of competing at Marina Bay without a Grand Prix victory, he delivered a controlled and confident performance when it mattered most.

With the season approaching its conclusion, Verstappen and Red Bull will look to carry that momentum into Austin and continue challenging the championship contenders.
