Syracuse Football Looks to Break Poor ACC Streak vs. Virginia: Need to Know

The Syracuse Orange football team is looking to create a winning streak this Saturday night, something it has not accomplished in over a calendar year. The Orange defeated the UConn Huskies 42-41 last Saturday to start the hopeful streak, moving to 2-2 in the process.

In addition to trying to get a winning streak and positive momentum, the Orange are looking accomplish another feat: Win an ACC game for the first time since Sept. 2025. If they are going to do that, they'll have to beat Virginia on the road in Charlottesville, Va.
The weekend contest marks the third straight road game of the season for the Orange, who lost to Pitt on Sept. 17 before playing UConn last week.

More on the league losing streakSept. 20, 2025 was the last time Syracuse football recorded a ACC win. The Orange defeated the Clemson Tigers 34-21. Since then, the Orange have lost nine straight ACC matchups, including two this season.
In the team's second home game of the season, Syracuse squandered opportunities against the California Golden Bears. Syracuse had double-digit penalties, including one that nullified a punt return touchdown. The Orange lost 21-18.
Following the loss to Cal, Syracuse traveled to Pittsburgh to take on the Panthers in a Thursday night tilt. The Orange struggled on offense and fell to their rival, 27-13.
Health status of Amari OdomQuarterback Amari Odom's first start in a Syracuse uniform was one of the highlights of the team's victory against UConn last Saturday. The transfer from Kennesaw State threw for more than 300 yards and accounted for six total touchdowns. He also scored the game-winning two-point conversion in overtime.
On Thursday, Odom appeared on the team's injury report as "questionable" for the contest. On Friday night, it was reported that Odom won't start, and neither will former starter Steve Angeli. Instead, it will be third-stringer Malachi Nelson. There's no word on what has prohibited Angeli from playing.
How have the Cavaliers played through four games?The Cavaliers were destroyed by the Florida State Seminoles 38-7 in their most recent game. Virginia enters the game with a 3-2 overall record and is 1-1 in ACC play.
The conference victory came in a 34-8 blowout win in August against NC State. Since then, the Cavaliers snagged two non-conference wins: A 59-3 win over FCS Norfolk State and 42-3 victory over Delaware.
History of the seriesSaturday's football game is just the seventh time that the schools have faced off. The schools are 3-3 against each other in the previous six. The most recent game took place in 2022 when Syracuse pushed their then record to 4-0 with a 22-20 win.
The Orange won at the JMA Wireless Dome thanks to a made field goal by now Cleveland Browns kicker Andre Szmyt with under two minutes to go.
