Peter Bosz Breaks Silence After PSV Beat Heerenveen 2-0: “We Didn’t Have Enough Control”
· Yahoo Sports
Peter Bosz admitted PSV were below their best against SC Heerenveen, but the manager was particularly pleased to see his side return from the international break with a 2-0 victory.
Guus Til opened the scoring before an own goal involving Marcus Linday doubled PSV’s advantage after the break. The result gave the Eredivisie champions a winning return to domestic action and a clean sheet, although Heerenveen created several opportunities before the result was settled.

For Bosz, the circumstances surrounding the fixture made the victory even more valuable.
Bosz: “We Didn’t Have Enough Control”PSV struggled at times to control the match, with Bosz acknowledging that his team became too stretched and careless in possession.
“There were moments when the field felt too big. We were sometimes sloppy with the ball. That creates anxiety on the field. We didn’t have enough control. Then you can fall behind,” Bosz said.
The PSV coach felt the situation improved after his substitutions, with the team becoming more compact and recovering possession more quickly.
“But when you factor in where everyone’s coming from after the international break, we played a good match,” he added.
Bosz believes matches immediately before and after international breaks are particularly demanding because managers have less time with their squads.
“Games around an international break are often more difficult. You have a little less control over the group,” he explained.
“Often, they’re preoccupied with traveling before or after the game, so they’re less focused on the present. That’s why I’m especially happy with this win.”
The lack of preparation time was also evident in PSV’s passing.
“Absolutely, that’s always been our strength. I was only able to shake hands with some of the guys for the first time yesterday. Yes, that has an impact, but we still have to win our matches,” Bosz said.
PSV now have three days to recover before travelling to Germany for their Champions League meeting with RB Leipzig [IMAGO / ANP]Til and Mijnans CombinationWith Ricardo Pepi, Sam Lammers and Alassane Pléa unavailable, Guus Til again operated in the striker role, with Sven Mijnans playing behind him.
Bosz believes the pair can complement each other, but stressed the importance of having one of them consistently occupying the area around the goal.
“Definitely, but the most important thing in this lineup is that one of them is in front of the goal. You saw that with the first goal, too,” he said.
PSV now face a very different test when they travel to Germany to meet RB Leipzig in the Champions League on Tuesday.
“PSV will have to show a different side against Leipzig, but this is just a snapshot,” Bosz said.
Flamingo: “We’re Going for the Maximum Points”Ryan Flamingo started in defence instead of Lutsharel Geertruida, who was available but was not risked by Bosz.
“He could have played, but I didn’t want to take any risks. And Ryan is also a very good player. He’s trained very well over the past few weeks and played a good preseason match,” Bosz explained.
Flamingo admitted PSV’s performance was not their best.
“Our play on the field wasn’t great. That was mainly due to our passing. We needed to switch sides faster, just to name one thing,” he said.
The defender also acknowledged the challenge of moving between the starting XI and the bench.
“If you have to be out there, you have to be out there, but you do lose some rhythm. I did my best today, and we kept a clean sheet, that’s something.”
Flamingo believes PSV are entering an important period of the season.
“We have a good team, and we’re entering a crucial stretch. We can pick up a lot of points in both European and domestic competition. There are eight games left, and we’re going for the maximum points.”
