Bayern Munich heads into halftime trailing FC Augsburg 1-0 after a disastrous start to the Bavarian derby, with Manuel Neuer’s inexplicable blunder allowing Robin Fellhauer to score just eight seconds into the match. The mistake set an unwanted Bundesliga record, and Bayern Munich has spent the rest of the half trying to recover from the early embarrassment.

Despite controlling 66% of possession and completing 283 accurate passes at an 89% rate, Vincent Kompany’s side has struggled to turn its dominance into clear-cut opportunities. Bayern Munich has managed 11 shots, with just three on target, while FC Augsburg has registered seven attempts and one effort on target.

Bayern Munich has enjoyed the ball, but Augsburg has done a better job of making its opportunities count and putting the visitors under pressure. Neuer’s early howler has certainly complicated matters, but the defending champions have had plenty of time to respond.

Bayern Munich needs a much sharper second half. More possession without more shots on target will not be enough, and Kompany’s side must find a way to turn its territorial advantage into genuine pressure on the Augsburg goal before this afternoon gets even uglier.
