MotoGP delayed as flying visor and huge crash cause chaos in Indonesia

Friday’s running at the Indonesian Grand Prix was delayed for a number of strange reasons.

Ahead of the timed pre-qualifying MotoGP session, the preceding Moto2 running experienced a red flag due to technical issues.
As such, MotoGP’s timed practice experienced a 35-minute delay amid a chaotic opening day of track action at the Mandalika International Circuit.

Deniz Oncu experienced a huge crash at Turn 16, but was thankfully OK.
He stopped far earlier than his Marc VDS bike, which went flying into the barriers, smashing it to pieces.

There was also another red flag for a separate, strange reason, as Manu Gonzalez’s visor came off his helmet and ended up on the track.
MotoGP practice delayed by 35 minutes
Despite the two red flags, the session was able to continue under normal conditions, and it was topped by Izan Guevara.
The 2027 Pramac Yamaha signing smashed the lap record with a 1:32.337, further bolstering his title challenge.

Currently 10.5 points off Gonzalez’s lead, the future MotoGP rider has every chance of joining next year’s grid as a two-time world champion, adding to his 2022 Moto3 crown.
Gonzalez, who won't be on the 2027 grid, previously had a title lead that was starting to look insurmountable.
Last time out Japan things took a dramatic turn as Gonzalaz's bike stalled on the grid at the start of the Grand Prix.
Guevara was able to capitalise for the win, and his title charge is in full flow with six races to go.
