Actor Nana Patekar dies at 75

Veteran actor Nana Patekar died at the age of 75 after suffering a cardiac arrest at his home in Goa on Thursday, PTI reported.

Patekar was found unconscious at his apartment early in the morning and was taken to hospital, the news agency quoted the doctor at the medical facility as saying.

Despite being administered cardiopulmonary resuscitation for 45 minutes, Patekar could not be revived and was declared dead at 5.20 am.

A medico-legal case has been registered and a postmortem will be conducted.

According to information provided by a friend of Patekar to doctors, the actor had messaged him around 3.30 am saying he was not feeling well. The friend saw the message around 4 am and went to Patekar’s apartment, where he was living with a caretaker, PTI reported.

Patekar’s body has been sent to Goa Medical College and Hospital in Bambolim for a postmortem to ascertain the exact cause of death.

Patekar was known for his roles in several Hindi and Marathi films. His notable Hindi films include Parinda, Prahaar: The Final Attack, Tirangaa, Krantiveer and Khamoshi: The Musical.

He was a recipient of three National Film Awards, several Filmfare Awards and the Maharashtra State Film Award. He was also awarded the Padma Shri, the country’s fourth-highest civilian honour, in 2013.
