Man scores near impossible cancer charity hockey shot, then surprises organizers

A longtime supporter of The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation netted the nearly impossible for a $100,000 payday over the weekend.

He then surprised organizers of the charity’s 15th annual road hockey tournament by donating his winnings to further cancer research.

Wayne Robbins’ name was one of two selected for the foundation’s first ever Shoot for $100K Contest on Saturday in Vaughan. Those who raised money for the charity received a ballot entry for every $150 they collected .

To win, contestants needed to shoot the orange street hockey ball through a small hole from one end of the rink to the other.

Perfect shot stuns crowd

Robbins lined up his shot and rolled the ball slightly to the left of the hole before it curled towards the tiny opening and cleanly into the net , stunning organizers and onlookers.

He celebrated with organizers and celebrity sports stars who participated in the event as the crowd cheered.

“I know you have an announcement as well,” former TSN announcer Rod Black said as he interviewed Robbins on his remarkable shot.

Donates winnings to charity

The contestant said he will be giving all the money to the charity.

“It is an honour and a privilege to play with Dr. Marcus Bernardini and the Ovarian Blitzers, and I would like to donate the $100,000,” Robbins said.

Bernardini is the Head of the Division of Gynecologic Oncology at the University Health Network and Mount Sinai Hospital, specializing in gynecologic cancers.

The Princess Margaret Cancer Foundation said a record $3.7 million was raised last weekend.
