Production on The Batman Part 2 has come to an unexpected halt as director Matt Reeves stepped away for personal reasons.
DC Studios and Warner Bros. provided a statement to Deadline confirming the news, noting that Reeves is focusing on a "family matter." The studio stated that it is looking forward to "continuing this journey soon." It's unclear if Reeves is expected to return to the production or if he will be replaced by another director.

"Production on The Batman Part II has been temporarily paused while Matt Reeves focuses on a family matter,” said the studio. “Matt has the full support of DC Studios and we look forward to continuing the journey soon.”
Reeve's Batman saga has been a herculean effort when it comes to overcoming obstacles. His first film began filming at the start of 2020 and was shut down by the COVID-19 pandemic. The film suffered multiple delays as a result, but managed to come out the other side as a critical and commercial success. The sequel has also been hampered by delays for largely unknown reasons, with its original date being planned for October 2025.
After years of setbacks, the film finally began shooting earlier this summer and looked to be on track to hit its early 2028 release date. Now, that is being called into question. Deadline notes that sources say it's too early to tell whether the production halt will lead to another delay, but it's certainly not out of the question.
Whenever The Batman Part 2 does release, it will star Robert Pattinson, Sebastian Stan, Scarlett Johansson, Jeffrey Wright, Charles Dance, Collin Farrell, and a number of other major stars.
