Bronny James is set to play his first NBA season without his father being a teammate, and teams other than the Los Angeles Lakers are keeping an eye on how he does.

When Bronny James was selected with the 55th overall pick in the 2024 NBA Draft, many fans and analysts claimed it was only because of his father, LeBron James. The King has left the Los Angeles Lakers now, though, leaving Bronny to carve out his own path in the league.

The Lakers’ coaching staff has been trying to develop Bronny’s already great defensive instinct, and it looks like he might be a part of the roster again this season. Things may still change, though, with one player needing to be cut from the group. And if the Lakers decide not to keep the young James, there are other options.

NBA insider’s report reveals there is interest in Bronny James from other teams

The 21-year-old played in 42 games for the Lakers last season, averaging 2.9 points and 1.5 assists per game. These aren’t insane numbers, but he is still developing. Bronny’s defense has made up for the offensive end a fair bit, too, and it seems people are impressed with what they have seen.

According to NBA insider Sean Deveny’s report for Heavy, one executive revealed there is definitely interest from other teams across the league in potentially trading for James.

“There’s definitely interest there,” one executive said of other teams nosing around on James. “He’s gotten much better in a short period. He knows his role, and it’s hard to find young guys who just want to excel in their role.”

Deveney also added in the article, “Don’t rule out a Bronny James trade, not because the Lakers are seeking to dump him but because he could bring in draft assets–even a second rounder or two, which is what James would bring.”

It is heartening to see that teams in the NBA want Bronny even when it has nothing to do with LeBron. The young star has been working to improve, and it seems that his time in the league will likely go on for much longer than his doubters predicted.
