Shortly after emerging from postgame handshakes, a reporter asked Kerrville Tivy coach Curtis Neill how big the Antlers' 70-66 road victory against Davenport was.

The jubilant players that surrounded him told the story.
"Can you tell how big a win this is?" Neill said. "Man, I'm so proud of these kids, this community and everyone involved. I'm 100 percent proud of them."
The Antlers (5-0) reached 70 points for the third straight time. Their up-tempo scheme generated 725 total yards and 28 first downs as Tivy improved to 2-0 in District 13-4A-I.
Tivy also snapped Davenport's 14-game district winning streak that dated back nearly three years. The Antlers also stopped a three-game losing streak against the Wolves, which included last year's 66-13 non-district result.
"This win was incredibly big," Tivy senior running back Aiden Zavala said. "We've lost to to them in the past two years by a big margin of points, so coming back into their territory, we knew we had to come out with a win."

Zavala levied the most damage, rushing for 212 yards and four touchdowns and catching 10 passes for 148 yards and two more scores.
Sophomore quarterback Cohen Stehling, fresh off a school-record 515-yard passing effort in a 70-14 win against Austin LBJ the week before, threw for 345 yards and four touchdowns and rushed 26 times for 168 yards on Friday.
"Our tempo," Zavala said of the reason why the offense is clicking this year. "Defenses aren't used to it, and we practice it every single day. Conditioning is something we work on every day to make sure we get this tempo right."
The Wolves (3-2, 1-1) employed a fast-paced offense, too, to the tune of 403 total yards and 21 first downs. Sophomore running back Jax Zamaripa rushed for 213 yards and three touchdowns on 17 carries. Junior running back Zayden Garza had 95 yards and two touchdowns on 16 carries. Quarterback Tristan Torrez passed for 290 yards and three scores.
Kerrville Tivy Antlers fans cheer on the Antlers after their 70-66 victory over the Davenport Wolves at Davenport Stadium in San Antonio, Friday, Oct. 2, 2026. (Sam Owens/San Antonio Express-News)As explosive as both offenses were, it was timely defense that helped the Antlers erase a second-half deficit. First, Tivy's Jackson Valentine tipped an interception to himself on the 50-yard line. That led to an 8-yard touchdown run by Zavala, his fourth scoring rush, which pulled the Antlers within 59-56 in the final minute of the third quarter.
Trailing 66-63 midway through the fourth quarter, Tivy forced a turnover on downs. They turned that opportunity into a 15-yard scoring completion from Stehling to Zavala for a 70-66 lead in the fourth quarter.
The Antlers thwarted a Wolves scoring threat when Kenyon Armelin picked off Torrez at the 3:28 mark. Tivy churned out most of the remaining clock thanks to a big third down conversion when Armelin passed to his twin Kyrun Armelin on a halfback pass that went for 30 yards.
"The kids kept playing," Neill said. "It was a back and forth game. Credit to (Davenport). That is a very good football team. But, let me tell you this is something about the fight in our young men in Kerrville, Texas."
Tivy now has scored 330 points in five games. Two weeks ago, they clipped Churchill 77-41 in a non-district contest.
"We believe in our system," Neill said. "We have a system that plays fast. We have special playmakers all over. We have an offensive line that just competes and fights for one another. And then our sophomore quarterback. He's just a stud."
On Friday night, Neill told his players they could sleep in on Saturday morning before preparing for Taylor (4-1), which lost against Canyon Lake, 70-35. Taylor's loss means the Antlers are in a first-place tie with Fredericksburg (2-0) in the league standings.
"It's the first Saturday we get to sleep in," Zavala said. "We're going to get home and get some good sleep."
