The James Franklin era couldn’t start any hotter – made more interesting by Penn State’s collapse to Wisconsin while the Hokies pushed past Boston College. They’re back home after taking down Maryland and the Eagles on the road.
Pitt is 4-0, but it hasn’t played the same type of game twice. It had to fight to get by a solid UCF team, and then it took down Syracuse in the ACC opener before blowing out Bucknell.

Why Virginia Tech Will Win
You want sacks? It’s a James Franklin team, so the pressure will come from everywhere. Helped by seven sacks against Old Dominion, the Hokies are No. 1 in the nation in sacks with 17, and now, for one of the first times all season, Pitt quarterback Mason Heintschel will be bounced around.
The Panther penalties have to stop. After getting hit with eight against UCF and eight more against Syracuse, Pitt was flagged 16 times against Bucknell in the blowout win. Every little mistake will matter in this.

Field position will matter, and both teams have decent punters. Field goals will be a factor, and Pitt’s Antonio Chadha has yet to miss, and Virginia Tech’s John Love is six-for-six.
Both quarterbacks are accurate, both pass rushes are amazing, the coaching staffs are strong, and the run defenses are nasty. At home, Virginia Tech will get that little extra boost late in a whale of an ACC fight that will be well worth the watch.
