Eric Tulsky and the Carolina Hurricanes held a press conference on the eve of their season opener and the general manager answered a few questions from the media. Nothing new was revealed.

Felix Unger Sorum and Bradly Nadeau each “earned” a spot on the big club, but there is no room for them and they are not breaking up the Stanley Cup Champions at this point. Tulsky feels confident that they will be back.

“They have earned Rod’s trust, he will play them if needed.”

The GM would not answer questions or reveal anything new regarding hold out Alexander Nikishin. The fact that the player has changed agents does add another voice to the discussion, but both sides have their positions and they are trying to resolve the issue.

They are holding three goalies for now because they are concerned Primeau would be claimed on waivers, (like he was last year.)

Fred Andersen has signed with Edmonton, Alexander Nikishin has yet to sign, and Seth Jarvis is on injured reserve, but everyone else is back.

Charles Alexis Legault seems to have won the battle to replace Nikishin. “He’s a righty and that is what we need,” said Brind’Amour.

“One Ring To Rule Them All”

I also had the opportunity to participate in an interview of the championship ring designer, Jason of Beverly Hills. (https://x.com/JasonofBH) Jason gave all the details of the ring, which are nicely described here, in the linked article.

I took a couple of pics. Tom Dundon was heavily involved with the design work, in particular wanting the puck pendent inside the ring.

By the way, fan versions of the ring will eventually be available to the public. A cool 16K for the gold version and $1,600 for non-gold. Obviously, the player versions cost considerably more.

Al will have the game preview for the opener up soon.
