CJP to start ‘jail bharo’ stir in Mumbai on October 2 as permission denied for protest against CEC

Abhijeet Dipke, founder of the Cockroach Janta Party, said on Monday that the political campaign will start a “jail bharo andolan”, or mass voluntary arrest movement, in Mumbai on October 2, after the police denied the political campaign permission to hold a protest in Shivaji Park.

The Cockroach Janta Party had sought permission to hold the protest on October 2 to demand the resignation of Chief Election Commissioner Gyanesh Kumar. The Mumbai Police denied it permission on Sunday, saying that Shivaji Park can only be used for sports, as per a 2013 Bombay High Court order.
The police also said that the protest could cause “noise pollution” in the residential locality. “Furthermore, as there are several major hospitals in the vicinity, the resulting traffic congestion could affect the movement of patients,” it added.
In response, Dipke shared a video of Maharashtra Deputy Chief Minister Eknath Shinde addressing a gathering at the venue in January and asked how he had been granted permission for his event.
