In this age of high-scoring offenses, games ending with teams only scoring once or twice has become a rarity especially at the high school level.
Games with five total points though? That's almost unheard of.

That's what happened in Delaware Thursday night, Sept. 24, as Appoquinimink (DE) traveled to Howard (DE) and left Wilmington with an almost unheard of 3-2 win over the Wildcats.
Both teams entered the night with two of the best defenses in the state. Appoquinimink was 2-0 and had outscored its first two opponents 67-13 while Howard was also 2-0 outscoring its first two opponents 92-6.
This game was a stark contrast to the game that the two programs played last season. Howard won that game 46-39 after scoring 24 first-quarter points and then holding off a massive Appoquinimink comeback in the second half.
On Thursday night, it was Appoquinimink that struck first on a 20-yard field goal in the first quarter. The teams would go on to play two and a half scoreless, turnover-filled quarters as neither offense managed to get anything going against the opposing defense.
Appoquinimink faced a fourth down from its own 12 late in the game and not wanting a finish like last Saturday's Vanderbilt and NC State game, the Jaguars allowed Howard to finally score on a safety by running out of the back of the end zone but also securing the win.
With a matchup between two of Delaware's top programs out of the way, they'll both turn ahead to next week as they look to get their offenses back on track. Appoquinimink (3-0) hosts St. Georges Tech (DE) next Friday while Howard (2-1) heads to Woodbridge (DE).
