The Green Bay Packers are desperate for a running back like Josh Jacobs, but Dan Patrick doesn’t expect to see him suit up for them ever again.
We’re just three weeks into the NFL season, and Packers fans are already in panic mode, particularly after their blowout loss to the Atlanta Falcons on Thursday Night Football. The loss, which broke Green Bay’s streak of 13 straight wins in home openers, emphasized how difficult it will be for them to win without two of their biggest playmakers from last season: Micah Parsons and Josh Jacobs.

Parsons is still out recovering from the torn ACL he suffered late last season. Jacobs is currently on the NFL’s commissioner-exempt list after pleading no contest to two misdemeanor charges of battery and criminal damage to property. And according to Dan Patrick, the Packers should not expect Jacobs to return.
“I don’t think they have Josh Jacobs play for them ever again,” Patrick revealed on his Friday morning radio show before citing, “The judge ruled you can show the video of him with the domestic violence case.”
Packers head coach Matt LaFleur recently downplayed the incident prior to the start of the NFL season, calling it an “unfortunate situation.” But while LaFleur stood by Jacobs, the running back’s return to the Packers remains up in the air.
Earlier this week, a Wisconsin judge denied a request by the victim’s attorneys to have the evidence, which includes surveillance video, permanently sealed. The ruling does not mean the evidence will be immediately released, but the possibility of the video going public now looms.
Jacobs was placed on the commissioner’s exempt list Aug. 30, making him ineligible to play or practice with the Packers. Once the league’s investigation is complete, he could face a suspension, with the time spent on the exempt list counting toward any potential punishment.
According to the criminal complaint, Jacobs threw the victim, his ex-girlfriend, to the ground. While the NFL and the Packers should not need to see video to know a physical altercation occurred, the Ray Rice case showed the league altered its punishment once video of the incident was released. If the NFL allows Jacobs to return to the Packers and then video of the altercation with his ex-girlfriend is released, it could change public perception of any decision to let him play.
