For Miami, they’re a national championship contender, if not favorite at this point of the year. With one of the most talented rosters in the country the Canes look to use and explosive offense led by star QB Darian Mensah and all-world WR Malachi Toney, Miami is going to be lighting up scoreboards all over the country all year long.
Heading into this game, however, the Canes are battling myriad injuries. An inexhaustive list of players who looked injured or left the game injured against Wake Forest on Friday night: QB Darian Mensah, RB Mark Fletcher Jr., RB Marty Brown, WR Malachi Toney, TE Elija Lofton, DT Ahmad Moten Sr., and LB Mo Toure. Obviously, some of those injuries are worse than others, but still, that’s a *LOT* of talent from the top of the roster that got dinged up or seriously hurt in one game.
Oh, and that’s not even to mention the fact that TE Luka Gilbert is already out for the year, and 3 of Miami’s top 5 Cornerbacks — Ja’Boree Antoine, O.J. Frederique, and Xavier Lucas — are out for at least a month (Antoine and Lucas) or indefinitely (Frederique).
Against Central Michigan, one of the worst teams in FBS football, Miami should be able to run up the score and rest the starters. But that’s going to take Miami handling their business early to get close to or over this sizeable line.
This is a big line, but an understandable and expected one. After *ONLY* winning by 13 last week, I’d love to see Miami beat the brakes off Directional Michigan this upcoming weekend, get some quality rest and recouperation for key players, and iron out some kinks before turning our attention back to the ACC schedule.
