The New York Yankeesare expected to place Aaron Judge on the 10-day injured list due to a right calf strain, Bryan Hoch of MLB.com reports. While it is far from an ideal update, there is one bit of good news. According to Jon Heyman of MLB Network, Judge can be activated for Game 162, which is the final contest of the regular season, of course.
Judge recently returned from an injury after not going on a rehab assignment. The hope was that the remainder of the regular season would serve as a rehab assignment of sorts as Judge found his timing before the playoffs. He ended up exiting a game on Wednesday, however, and now the star outfielder is headed back to the IL.
An official injury return timeline has yet to be revealed. Heyman’s report is optimistic, but it doesn’t mean Judge will play in Game 162. It just means he will be eligible to return then.

If Judge’s injury doesn’t prove to be serious and Game 162 is meaningful for New York, then perhaps he will be activated for the contest. The Yankees are on track to win the American League Wild Card, but they still are chasing the Tampa Bay Rays in the AL East. Their chances of surpassing the Rays are slim, but it is still possible.
If Game 162 ends up not meaning much, one has to imagine the Yankees will wait to bring Judge back. The goal is to have him available for the playoffs, of course.
