NBA fans did not appreciate Bleacher Report naming Joel Embiid as the starting center of their All-Overpaid lineup.

Ahead of the new season, Bleacher Report decided to release an interesting feature, naming the players they felt were most overpaid heading into the new season.
However, their inclusion of Joel Embiid has not gone down well with NBA fans, who think the former MVP is being unfairly criticised.

Bleacher Report named Joel Embiid as part of their ‘All-Overpaid’ lineup for the 2026-27 season, which included Ja Morant, Christian Braun, Paul George, and Patrick Williams.
Embiid is set to make almost $60 million this coming season, which makes him one of the highest-paid players in the league.
However, fans believe that Embiid’s inclusion was not fair, especially when comparing his accolades to the rest of the players on the list.
One fan wrote, “Embiid slander needs to stop; it’s just lazy. Find new talking points to abuse; this has been played out. It’s been going on since 2019.”
Another fan took a harsher stance against the outlet, noting, “27 PPG scorer who led a 3-1 comeback in the playoffs is overpaid… This is the problem with modern sports discourse; it’s all about what can get you clicks and replies by engagement baiting. Bleacher Report is shameless.”
A third fan also went at Bleacher Report, noting, “I feel like you can acknowledge poor contracts without doing dumb exercises like this.”
“Put Jokic in there. Getting paid 70 million and not being able to outplay Ayo Dosunmu,” wrote a fourth fan who suggested Embiid should be replaced by his former rival.
A fifth fan shared a pertinent question, asking, “Which one of these guys averaged 27 last season again?”
And lastly, one fan suggested another former 76ers star should take Embiid’s place, writing, “Embiid spent years playing at an MVP level while Tobias Harris made more than him, but I guess people forget that.”
Embiid is the only former NBA MVP on the list, and was considered one of the best players in the NBA just a few years ago.
And while Embiid’s frailty and injury issues have led to him missing several games over the last few seasons, there is no denying that he is still a massively talented star.
Last season, Embiid delivered a strong performance in the playoffs, where he helped the 76ers overcome a 3-1 deficit against a very strong Boston Celtics side.
This season, many expect Embiid to have things easier, given that he can now rely on superstar teammates like LeBron James, Jaylen Brown, and Tyrese Maxey.
As long as Embiid is healthy and in form heading into the playoffs, the 76ers won’t be too concerned about him missing games in the regular season.
