Zimbabwean man accused of possessing human remains in Botswana

A 28-year-old Zimbabwean national has appeared before a Botswana court facing a charge of unlawfully possessing human flesh or remains.
Nyasha Mudzongeri appeared before the Francistown Magistrate Court on Tuesday, 15 September 2026, according to the Botswana Police Service.

Zimbabwean man faces two charges in Botswana
Mudzongeri is facing two counts following his arrest near Shashe Mooke Village on Sunday, 13 September.
The first charge relates to allegedly entering the country through an ungazetted point of entry without travel documents.
He is also accused of the unlawful possession of human flesh or remains.
Botswana Police did not provide further details about the circumstances surrounding the alleged possession in its latest media release.
Suspected human remains sent for forensic testing
Police said exhibits recovered during the investigation have been submitted to the Botswana Police Service Forensic Science Services Laboratory.
The items will undergo comprehensive forensic and scientific examination as investigators work to establish their origin and determine whether they have any other evidential value.
This means the nature and origin of the suspected human remains have not yet been publicly established by forensic examination.
Accused remanded in Botswana prison
Following his court appearance, Mudzongeri was remanded in prison.
He is expected to appear before the court again on 18 September 2026.
The Botswana Police Service said investigations into the matter are continuing and urged members of the public not to share, forward or create unverified content about the case.
Police also encouraged the public to rely on official updates from the Botswana Police Service and other competent authorities, warning that misinformation could undermine the investigation and the administration of justice.
The accused remains entitled to the presumption of innocence unless and until proven guilty in court.
