Eagles' Pro Bowl O-lineman heading to IR. Who's replacing him?

PHILADELPHIA − By all accounts, Eagles left guard Landon Dickerson had a rough opening game against the Washington Commanders.

Pro Football Focus graded him with four pressures allowed. On other plays, Commanders defenders had gotten by him before quarterback Jalen Hurts either escaped or threw the ball away.

It turns out that Dickerson was playing through an injury that will land him on injured reserve. The Philadelphia Inquirer was the first to report the news, but Dickerson confirmed it on SportsRadio WIP on Sept. 14.

Dickerson did not make himself available for comment after the Eagles' 24-22 win over the Commanders on Sept. 13.

"Honestly, I played like (expletive) yesterday," Dickerson said on the radio. "I was a complete liability. It was my fault. I should not be out there until I feel healthy. A few weeks ago, someone rolled up on me in practice. We got some imaging on it today. Really the best plan going forward is to put me on IR so I can have a good stretch at the back end of the season.

"I don’t think anybody wants to see that again. That was ugly. That was BS. This is not related to last season.”

It should be noted that Dickerson was not on the Eagles' injury report at all last week.

Dickerson will miss at least four games. He wouldn't be eligible to return until Oct. 18 against Carolina at the earliest. He would miss upcoming games against Tennessee, Chicago, the Los Angeles Rams and Jacksonville Jaguars in London.

It's expected that Drew Kendall, the Eagles' fifth-round pick in 2025, would replace him, although Willie Lampkin is also a possibility. Kendall, drafted as a center, started the regular-season finale there. He has yet to play guard in an NFL game.

Eagles coach Nick Sirianni, in his Sept. 14 press conference, did not say that Dickerson was injured, although he was asked twice about Dickerson's play. Dickerson was selected to the Pro Bowl in three straight seasons, from 2022-24.

"I think what you see with Landon is his extreme power," Sirianni said. "He's a big man who is able to move guys off the spot ... So he gives up some pressures, but he also caved in the side on Saquon (Barkley)'s long run on that third down.

"He's tough as heck. We've won a ton of games with Landon, and there are a lot of good things that he can do. Just like every player on our team from (the Commanders) game, and every coach for that matter, there are good moments and there are moments that we've got to fix.

"That's where we are. Can't tell you how much I think of Landon and the player that he is, and particularly that power and that size where he can move guys off the spot against their will."

Dickerson has had multiple knee and ankle surgeries during his career dating back to college at Florida State and Alabama, then the NFL.

He had knee surgery following the Eagles' Super Bowl victory in Feb. 2025. He also had surgery on his meniscus during training camp that August. Yet Dickerson returned in time for the season opener three weeks later against the Cowboys.

Dickerson said this summer that he returned too soon.

Dickerson had various ailments during the 2025 season, getting listed on the injury report for a knee, ankle, quad and back issues. Still, Dickerson only missed two games last season. During the offseason, Dickerson, who's 27 years old, contemplated retirement, before deciding to return (Dickerson denied thinking about retiring when asked at training camp).

But Dickerson did go to Colombia, in South America, for stem-cell treatment during the offseason, as did center Cam Jurgens. Dickerson did not miss time in training camp for injury, although he did get a few rest days here and there.
