Lamar Jackson contract extension talks with Baltimore Ravens reportedly ‘stuck in neutral’

Lamar Jackson is a legend for the Baltimore Ravens. However, it seems that his future with the team is uncertain at the moment.
The 2-time NFL MVP signed a 5-year deal worth well over $250 million in 2023. As of the end of the 2027-28 season, he could become an unrestricted free agent. As such, extension talks have been ongoing.

Some fans think giving him a huge contract might be a concern due to his perpetual playoff issues. However, there is nothing to worry about for now as talks have reportedly been shelved.

The Ravens cannot afford to lose Jackson for nothing in a year’s time, so an extension is in the interest of both parties, even if it ends up costing a lot for Baltimore.
Adam Schefter recently came out with a report for ESPN, in which he revealed there is very little chance of a deal happening anytime soon.
“There will be no last-minute, buzzer-beating, day-of-the-opener lucrative contract extension for Baltimore Ravens quarterback Lamar Jackson — the way there was for Dallas Cowboys quarterback Dak Prescott on opening day two years ago,” Schefter wrote.
“Jackson has been more focused on Sunday’s game against the Indianapolis Colts and the season ahead and has been reluctant to discuss a long-term extension with the Ravens, for whatever reason, league sources told ESPN.
“No deal is expected anytime soon, according to sources, despite the Ravens’ willingness to make him the highest-paid quarterback in football.”
“Ravens owner Steve Bisciotti already has publicly said that he wants the two-time MVP back and is willing to make Jackson the highest-paid quarterback in NFL history. Many around the league believe that Jackson could become the NFL’s first $70 million-per-year player.
“Yet the situation has remained stuck in neutral for over a year while Jackson is more focused on returning to the type of form he had during his MVP seasons.”
If the Ravens don’t get better this year, Jackson might consider leaving for greener pastures to see if he can finally win a Super Bowl, as befits a superstar of his stature.
