Former Orlando Pirates striker Mbuyane moves to politics

Mbuyane remains a familiar name to South African football supporters following his successful spell with the Buccaneers. It was where he established himself as an important attacking player after joining from Free State Stars.

The former striker spent six seasons with the Buccaneers and was part of the side that enjoyed a remarkable period of success.
His glittering career included league and cup triumphs. He also represented Bafana Bafana, making six international appearances and scoring once.

The Mamelodi-born star became a popular figure at the club, particularly for his goals and trademark Juju Man celebration.
Orlando Pirates previously described him as one of its successful forwards against Mamelodi Sundowns, highlighting his connection to his hometown.
That connection to his community has remained part of Mbuyane’s story beyond his playing career.
After retiring from professional football, he also remained involved in the game, including coaching activities in Mamelodi and working towards his coaching qualifications.
Now, his latest move takes him outside football altogether.
Mbuyane has been unveiled as an ELF-SA councillor candidate for Ward 67.
The campaign highlighting issues including community development, youth empowerment, safer neighbourhoods and service delivery.
The transition represents a major change for a player who once entertained thousands of supporters at Orlando Stadium.

For Economic Liberators Forum South Africa, Mbuyane’s candidacy forms part of its campaign under the slogan “The Next Step Is Change.”
The former Orlando Pirates star is now seeking to use his public profile and his connection with the community in a different capacity.
His football career included 95 league appearances and 19 goals for Orlando Pirates, according to Transfermarkt, while National-Football-Teams records list 116 appearances and 22 goals across competitions for the club.
Mbuyane’s next challenge, however, will not be decided on a football pitch.
The man once known for his energy, goals and celebrations is now putting his name forward to represent residents at local government level.
From Free State Stars to Orlando Pirates, and now from football to community politics, Mbuyane has opened another chapter in his remarkable journey.
