The New York Yankees finally have their captain back, but Aaron Boone does not plan to push Aaron Judge too hard right away after his return from injury. The Yankees star returns after a long layoff caused by an injury that sidelined him for 83 games. Judge was activated from the injured list and will return against the Colorado Rockies, giving New York its biggest offensive weapon back.
Aaron Boone said Judge will be eased into a full-time role. Fans should expect him to leave some games early instead of immediately playing all nine innings. Extra rest could also be part of the plan as the Yankees rebuild his workload after more than three months away.

Aaron Judge suffered a rib injury and stress fracture at the end of May. Before going down, he slashed .248/.375/.533 with 17 home runs and 38 RBI. Those numbers still show the impact New York has missed in the middle of its lineup.
Aaron Judge returns as Yankees chase October momentum
The timing could hardly be bigger. New York enters Judge’s return at 81-62, sitting second in the AL East behind the Tampa Bay Rays while holding the inside track for the top American League Wild Card spot.
That makes Boone’s balancing act important. The Yankees need Judge now, but they need him healthy even more once October arrives. There is little value in squeezing an extra inning out of their superstar if it creates unnecessary risk.
Still, seeing No. 99 back under the stadium lights should give Yankee Stadium a different energy. Every Judge at-bat changes how pitchers attack the lineup, and even a shortened night can provide the swing New York has been missing.
The first few games may come with early exits and careful management. The bigger goal is obvious: get Judge back to full strength when the postseason pressure hits hardest.
