LEXINGTON — Hard to imagine how the Will Stein era with the Kentucky football program could have started better.

The Wildcats scored touchdowns on each of their first three drives, already exceeding the best start in any game last season.
In UK's season opener Saturday, Sept. 5 — which doubled as Stein's debut as coach — the hosts received to begin the game vs. Youngstown State at Kroger Field.
The Wildcats promptly marched 75 yards in seven plays. Running back CJ Baxter dashed into the end zone from 15 yards out to cap the opening possession, which lasted 3:31. New starting quarterback Kenny Minchey threw for 69 yards on the drive, completing all five of his attempts.
The good times kept rolling for Stein and the Cats.
After Kentucky's defense forced a three-and-out, Minchey and Co. took over 60 yards away from the goal line.
The Wildcats engineered their second straight seven-play scoring drive, with Baxter notching his second rushing TD in as many possessions. Baxter's second score was for 5 yards.
That type of offensive production was nearly unprecedented last season.
Kentucky scored TDs on its first two possessions of only two games in 2025: Eastern Michigan and Tennessee Tech.
On their third possession, Minchey drove the Cats 59 yards in seven plays, finishing the drive with his first touchdown pass of the season, a 10-yard toss to Mikkel Skinner.
