A Kawhi Leonard video from 2019 has resurfaced showing him denying knowledge of rumours of his uncle and then agent, Dennis Robertson, making wild demands from NBA teams.

Kawhi Leonard and the Los Angeles Clippers were punished by the NBA for circumventing the salary cap, with news about the ruling breaking on Wednesday.

Leonard escaped relatively unscathed with a $700,000 fine. However, his uncle and former agent, Dennis Robertson, was banned from all NBA dealings for five years.

Rumours about Robertson’s dealings have been floating around since before Kawhi joined the Clippers. And in the aftermath of the verdict, an old Kawhi video of him denying those allegations has resurfaced.

Kawhi Leonard claimed ‘people make up stories every day’ about the Dennis Robertson allegations

In 2019, fresh off a championship with the Toronto Raptors, Leonard was the biggest name in the free agent market. The Clippers eventually secured his services, and the rest is history.

Around that time, there were rumours that Robertson had been asking teams for things like part ownership in the team and endorsement money. Kawhi was asked about it and his response was quite interesting.

“I don’t know. I didn’t read it so I don’t know how reliable it is,” Leonard told reporters seven years ago. I have no knowledge of it. People make up stories every day.”

With what has come to light in the past year, it has become evident that uncle Dennis was involved in some under-the-table dealings.

Leonard denying the rumours is in line with his current stance that he never knew. Kawhi fired Robertson and got himself new representation in 2026.

While many fans and analysts are rightfully skeptical of Leonard’s claims, the video makes it clear that the two-time champion has always maintained zero knowledge of what was going on behind the scenes.
