How Ohio State moving Austin Siereveld brings 'beef' to interior OL

Ohio State senior captain Austin Siereveld's expected move to starting right guard this season will boost an already big and experienced core along the inside offensive line.

"It's a great trio that we can build off of," Ohio State center Carson Hinzman said. "We all trust each other because we've all played with each other through ups and downs, those kind of things. And I think with the experience we have in the middle right there, I think it's going to be a great advantage we have."
If Siereveld starts at right guard, the trio of Siereveld, Hinzman and left guard Luke Montgomery would bring more than five years of starting experience and an average stature of 6 feet 5, 314 pounds to the interior offensive line.
"When you look at Luke, Carson and Austin inside right there, that's a lot of beef in there," Ohio State coach Ryan Day said. "So, it certainly has given us a lot of reason to like that."
Siereveld spent the 2025 season playing left tackle, while Hinzman and Montgomery were on the inside with Tegra Tshabola at right guard. Tshabola's transfer to Kentucky during the offseason left Ohio State with an open starting offensive lineman position.
Going into preseason camp, junior Ian Moore and senior Joshua Padilla were the main contenders to take the final spot. Both had played significant snaps during Ohio State's final two games last season, with Moore in at left tackle for an injured Siereveld and Padilla replacing Tshabola at right guard.
Day had yet to make his final decision for the last starter on the line by the third week of camp but indicated Moore is likely to start at left tackle, meaning Siereveld would be at right guard.
After Siereveld was first approached about the possible move in April, he went into summer workouts fairly certain he'd be back inside, even though the final starter was undetermined.
Siereveld recorded his first seven starts at left guard but enjoyed the challenge of playing left tackle last season, where he started 14 games and earned All-Big Ten Second Team honors.
Though Siereveld originally wanted to avoid going to right guard, he quickly realized how being back with Hinzman on the inside and playing opposite Montgomery can strengthen the Buckeyes' offensive line.
"It's very uncommon to have three interior guys who've played three years," Siereveld said. "And we've just got to take advantage of that, and the connection we have together is just unreal."
