‘You Just Never Know’ — Browns Analyst Floats Possibility of Shedeur Sanders Getting Traded Amid Cleveland’s QB Dilemma

Although three-time Pro Bowler Deshaun Watson entered the Cleveland Browns’ training camp as the favorite to become the starting quarterback, second-year signal-caller Shedeur Sanders was given opportunities to win the job.
Watson, however, was named the Browns’ starting quarterback, prompting speculation about what may happen to Sanders.

Browns Analyst Spencer German Believes Shedeur Sanders Could Be Traded
In the Browns’ preseason finale, a 37-13 victory over the defending AFC Champion New England Patriots, another second-year pro, former UCF, Oklahoma, and Oregon quarterback Dillon Gabriel got the start.
The Patriots probably didn’t have too many defenders on the field that we will see when they travel to Seattle to take on the Seahawks in a Super Bowl rematch in less than two weeks, but it was still an impressive night for Gabriel. He completed 12-of-15 passes for 186 yards with three touchdowns and no interceptions.
Sanders appeared in eight games as a rookie, completing 56.6% of his passes (120-of-212) for 1,400 yards with seven touchdowns and 10 interceptions. He earned a PFN QB Impact Grade of 63.0, good for 38th in the league and behind Gabriel’s grade of 64.0.

Despite that performance and Sanders’ struggles last season, the Browns said it would have no impact on the starting and backup quarterback spots, meaning Watson and Sanders have locked down those roles.
Even so, Browns analyst Spencer German wouldn’t be surprised to see Sanders dealt.
“I’m not anticipating that Shedeur Sanders is gonna get traded, but it’s the NFL,” German said. “Crazier things have happened.”

Teams can get quarterback-hungry, especially if one goes down early in the season, and German believes the Browns should heavily consider an offer if they think it’s worthwhile.
“You just never know what obviously could happen,” German explained. “If somebody called up and was offering the right price, if somebody called up legitimately and offered a 4th-round pick or even a 5th-round pick, if you even got the value back that you drafted Shedeur Sanders with, I think Andrew Berry would say ‘yes’ in a heartbeat.”
The Browns also have a track record.
“Think about what he did last year,” German told his producer, Dan Menningen. “He had Kenny Pickett, traded a fifth-round pick for Kenny Pickett, and when the Raiders came calling and said, ‘We’ll give you a fifth-round pick for Kenny Pickett,’ he said, ‘ Okay, I’ll get the value of the pick back that I used to get this player.’ I think he would absolutely do the same thing.”
An offer would have to come in before anyone could find out just how the Browns view Sanders.
German went on: “If they think he’s their guy, A: he’d be starting right now, and, B: their asking price would be ‘Okay, you’ve got to give us a first-, second-, or third-round pick.'”
Although Sanders has struggled, there is talent there, so it would not be a surprise to see someone take a shot on him, especially if it only takes a fifth-round pick.
