In the early 2000s, Green Day had fallen into a creative slump. Brilliantly, the band rebranded itself in 2004 with the release of its eleventh studio album, American Idiot. The band changed their look to incorporate black, red, and white, echoing the emerging emo scene that was merging into the mainstream.

Green Day’s American Idiot is a concept album about “Jesus of Suburbia”, an anti-hero raised in lower-middle-class America. With this, Green Day summarized the post-9/11 era of the country and vehemently stood against the Iraq War. The album cover features a hand holding a grenade in the shape of a heart, in their iconic red, black, and white theme of the era.
‘Hybrid Theory’ by Linkin Park
Linkin Park became one of the most defining nu-metal bands of the early 2000s. At the turn of the century, artists sought to distance themselves from the 1990s. Linkin Park is among the bands that presented something new in the early 2000s. Their mix of nu-metal, rap, and hard rock culminated in their massively successful debut album, Hybrid Theory.
Released on October 24, 2000, it peaked at No. 2 and, at the time, was the best-selling album since Guns N’ Roses’ Appetite For Destruction in 1987. The stenciled-graffiti cover depicts a soldier with butterfly wings carrying a flag through battle.

In 2008, Lil Wayne’s sixth album became one of the fastest-selling albums in the US. Tha Carter III debuted at No. 1 on the Billboard 200 and spawned four commercially successful singles. Among them, “Lollipop” went to No. 1, while “A Milli” and “Got Money” landed in the top ten. Lil Wayne’s iconic album cover features a young photo of the rapper, in a little suit and tie, with his face tattoos added to the image. Lil Wayne’s mother gave him the idea to use the image, and it’s now among the most recognizable album covers of all time.
