On Monday evening, Gabriel made his first official appearance with the second team as they hosted Ipswich. He was deployed as a second striker/attacking midfielder in Lawrence’s 4-2-3-1 system, playing behind Amir Ibragimov, and flanked by Tynan Thompson and Victor Musa, while the Fletcher twins operated in the double pivot.
United made short work of Ipswich, with Musa, Jack Fletcher, Jaydan Kamason and Dan Armer all getting on the scoresheet.
Nevertheless, the Reds left the best for last, with Gabriel stealing the limelight with a remarkable fifth goal.
After a series of quick passes in the middle of the park, the 15-year-old received a defence-splitting through ball from Jack Fletcher and found himself one-on-one with the goalkeeper.
Instead of trying to dribble past the shot-stopper or find the corner, Gabriel opted for an outrageous lob, sending the ball incredibly high in the air, and it then dropped perfectly into the open net.
