Mumbai Crime: Nagpada Police Book 2 Men For Alleged Sale Of Counterfeit Montair-LC Tablets After FDA Probe

Mumbai, August 24, 2026: The Nagpada police have booked two men for allegedly selling counterfeit Montair-LC tablets as genuine medicines after an FDA probe found the drug spurious.

Accused Identified
The accused are Ghulam Raju Khan and Paresh Kantilal Sakariya, proprietor of Sakariya Pharma, Kalbadevi. The FIR was registered on August 14.
Drug Inspector Hemant Ade acted on information received on July 3, 2025, about suspected counterfeit medicines being sold at Muskan Chemist, Kamathipura. FDA officials seized samples of Montair-LC, ShelcAl 500, Chymoral Fort, Budecort Rotacaps and ShelcAl Neu tablets.
Laboratory Finds Drug Spurious
Laboratory analysis found the Montair-LC sample “Not of Standard Quality”. A subsequent test found only 73.26% of the labelled Levocetirizine Hydrochloride and failed to detect Montelukast Sodium, leading to its classification as “Spurious”.
Khan allegedly said he sourced the medicines from Sakariya Pharma. Sakariya allegedly failed to provide purchase and supply details sought by the FDA.

Cipla Ltd, Sikkim, later stated that the sample was counterfeit and had not originated from its manufacturing facility. The police are probing the supply chain and possible involvement of others.
