Mumbai: The funeral procession of Sanket Nevshe, president of the Bhuleshwar Raja Sarvajanik Ganeshotsav Mandal, drew hundreds of mourners on Sunday, a day after the tragic collapse of the Bhuleshwar Cha Raja Ganesh idol claimed his life. A video of the procession has gone viral on social media, capturing the grief that has engulfed the Bhuleshwar community.

Large Mob Gathers For Final Journey

The viral video allegedly shows Nevshe's mortal remains being taken in a flower-decorated vehicle through the streets of Bhuleshwar. Women travelling in the vehicle can be seen in tears, while a large crowd follows the procession, paying their final respects to the 33-year-old mandal president.

The tragedy unfolded on Saturday night during the arrival procession of the 22-foot-tall Bhuleshwar Cha Raja idol. According to the BMC Disaster Management Cell, the incident took place around 9:50 pm near Kabutarkhana at Jay Ambe Chowk on Balaram Merchant Road in Bhuleshwar, when the massive idol reportedly lost balance and collapsed on devotees.

The accident claimed the lives of Sanket Nevshe (33) and Brijesh Hemant Joshi (30), while five others, including two young girls, sustained injuries and were admitted to GT and JJ hospitals. Hospital authorities said the injured are in stable condition.

Witnesses Recount Moments Of Horror

Witnesses described the horrifying moments leading up to the collapse. A local resident said the idol had arrived from Thakurdwar and was nearing the pandal when devotees were asked to move aside. Amid loud drums and music, the idol suddenly toppled, triggering panic.

Another eyewitness claimed the idol's arm broke first before the entire structure collapsed. He said his young grandson, who was sitting near the idol's feet, managed to jump away moments before the idol came crashing down. The witness also recalled that Brijesh Joshi was trapped underneath the idol and was rushed to the hospital, where doctors later declared him dead.

A third eyewitness said devotees were dancing and celebrating during the procession when the accident occurred within seconds. "No one even got a second to react," the resident said.

Meanwhile, the V.P. Road Police have launched an investigation into the incident. A preliminary probe suggests a possible technical failure in the idol's support mechanism during transportation, and officials are examining whether negligence or safety lapses led to the deadly collapse.
