The Athletic claims that Villa are interested in the Ecuador international as an option to replace Ezri Konsa this summer.

Ordonez has been linked with several Premier League cubs in recent transfer windows, but Villa are now leading the race to sign him.

Their approach for the 22-year-old comes after Southampton rejected a bid for Taylor Harwood-Bellis earlier this week.

Villa offered £18 million plus add-ons for the defender, but will need to fork out significantly more to sign Ordonez.

They are still in talks with Southampton over a move for Harwood-Bellis, but Ordonez is another option.

Ordonez has earned 20 caps for Ecuador, including three appearances at the 2026 World Cup.

He played ten times in the Champions League last season, proving that he can play at that level for Villa.

He completed 94 percent of his total passes and made 53 clearances in the competition.

Ordonez completed an average of 4.15 clearances and 1.48 tackles per league game last season.

He averaged approximately a foul per game, indicating his ability to get the job done without overstepping the mark,

They will make sure to sign at least one centre-back to replace Konsa with a younger player who has room to develop.
