Steelers QB Will Howard receives surprising update on future with team
· Yahoo Sports
The Pittsburgh Steelers were utterly humiliated in their preseason loss to the New York Jets. Some, including me, even believed Will Howard may have cost himself a roster spot thanks to his dreadful two-interception performance. But the Steelers apparently have different plans for their young quarterback.

According to insider Gerry Dulac of the Pittsburgh Post-Gazette, the Steelers won't be parting ways with Howard when roster cuts are due, regardless of his poor performance against the Jets.
"There will be one more preseason game to determine how many quarterbacks Steelers coach Mike McCarthy will keep on his 53-man roster. But he doesn’t need another game to know this: Will Howard and Drew Allar will be on the team," Dulac wrote. "That decision was reached even before Friday night’s 17-0 preseason loss against the New York Jets, team sources told the Post-Gazette. It didn’t even matter that both Howard and Allar failed to perform like they did a week earlier when they had the town buzzing. They will be kept when the Steelers reduce their roster to 53 players after Thursday night’s preseason finale in Buffalo."
In the preseason blowout loss to the Jets, Howard completed 10 of 15 passes for 74 yards and two interceptions. Allar completed just 11 of 23 passes for 110 yards with no touchdowns or interceptions thrown.
Neither young quarterback looked particularly great, but Allar definitely showed more promise of the two. It appears that the Steelers aren't going to let one game define Howard's future with the team as they head into 2026.
