This may be one of the last chances along South Africa’s 3 000 kilometre coast to build your waterfront dream.

The town, with a 3.64% crime rate, is within driving distance to most conveniences.

These amenities mean Port Nolloth may be the perfect destination for a retiree looking to “winter” in a warmer destination.

In August, the average temperature in the town is 26° Celsius.

In June and July, daily highs can dip to 14° Celsius, but typically average in the mid-20s.

But in Summer, temperatures in Port Nolloth can reach the high-30s and cross into the 40s.

If retirees can bear the heat, Port Nolloth may be their last chance to clench oceanfront property at bargain pricing.

The other town offering beachfront property is Kingsburgh, specifically in the suburb of Doonside, close to Amanzimtoti.

If you don’t want the hassle of building a home, you can buy a flat with sweeping sea views from as little as R600 000.

Doonside, like Port Nolloth, also offers safety, being part of the larger Amanzimtoti police precinct.

The seaside town has a 3.62% crime rate, with crime in the area currently on a downward trend.

Conveniences are even closer than they are in Port Nolloth.

But the town is known as a holidaymakers’ destination, so peace and tranquillity aren’t promised year-round.

That could be the price you have to pay for waterfront living.

Once seaside property hits the market, it’s the first to go, as many crave the lifestyle offered by living on the shore.
