Prime Minister Narendra Modi emerged as the top performer in a comprehensive digital report card presented during a Union Cabinet meeting to assess ministers' social media outreach and public engagement.

The assessment covered digital activity between May 1 and August 15 across X, Instagram, Facebook and LinkedIn. Besides follower counts, it measured posting frequency, total engagement, average interactions per post and how effectively ministers highlighted government initiatives, policies and achievements. Other high-performing ministers included Amit Shah, Rajnath Singh, Nitin Gadkari and Shivraj Singh Chouhan.

Government of India ministries have started forming Quick Response Teams (QRTs), not to tackle terrorism but to counter fake news and misleading narratives on social media. Each proposed QRT will be headed by a Joint Secretary.

Centre reconsiders UGC guidelines on campus caste discrimination

The Union government has informed the Supreme Court that it is actively reviewing the University Grants Commission (UGC) guidelines framed to address caste-based discrimination on higher education campuses.

Appearing before a Supreme Court bench led by Chief Justice of India Surya Kant, Solicitor General Tushar Mehta said the government and the UGC were examining the existing regulations and that a final stand had not yet been taken.

Supreme Court constitutes committee to probe Jantar Mantar protest

The Supreme Court has constituted a five-member High-Powered Enquiry Committee to probe allegations of violence and excessive use of force during student protests at Jantar Mantar and other locations. The committee will be chaired by former Supreme Court judge Justice R. Subhash Reddy. Its members are former CBI Director Rishi Kumar Shukla, former Meghalaya DGP Dr L.R. Bishnoi, former Punjab and Haryana High Court Chief Justice Ravi Shankar Jha and former Delhi High Court judge Justice Shalinder Kaur.

Onam bonanza for Kerala beverages corporation staff

In an Onam bonanza for employees of the Kerala State Beverages Corporation, the Kerala government has announced a bonus exceeding ₹1 lakh per employee. Security staff will receive ₹13,000 each, while housekeeping staff will get ₹6,500 each. The decision was cleared by Excise Minister M. SC yet to receive recommendation for elevation as Judge to MP High Court!

The Madhya Pradesh High Court Collegium had reportedly recommended the names of advocates Bharat Singh, Amalpushya Shrotiya, Shreyas Pandit, Avinash Jargar, Kanak Geharwar, Vivek Sharan, Bhakti Vyas and Rajesh Shukhla for elevation as judges of the MP High Court. If informed sources are to be believed, the recommendations are yet to reach the Supreme Court.
