LOS ANGELES — Oklahoma City Thunder center Chet Holmgren has his sights firmly set on representing Team USA at the 2028 Los Angeles Olympic Games.

The 24-year-old already has an NBA championship under his belt, and now he's looking to add a gold medal to the trophy cabinet.

"Anytime you get to represent your country and put those letters across your chest, it's an extreme honour," Holmgren told reporters at NBA 2K Community Day.

"I've done it before, and it was one of the most exciting things that I've done, and to have that opportunity would be kind of the highest honour you can have in this game."

Holmgren has a long history with Team USA, having famously led them to the gold at the 2021 FIBA U19 World Cup, where he took home MVP honours as USA defeated Victor Wembanyama's France in an 83-81 thriller.

He was also named to the 41-player finalist pool for the 2024 Paris Olympics, after he was named to the USA Select Team ahead of the 2023 FIBA World Cup.

Holmgren is coming off another strong season for the Thunder, averaging a career-high in points (17.1) and rebounds (8.9), along with 1.7 assists and 1.9 blocks per game, while shooting 55.7 percent from the field and 36.2 percent from the 3-point line, on his way to finishing second in Defensive Player of the Year voting.

As Team USA ushers in a new generation, with the likes of Stephen Curry, LeBron James, and Kevin Durant unlikely to be a part of the 2028 team, Holmgren is poised to be among the names in contention for Erik Spoelstra's big man rotation, along the likes of Evan Mobley, Jaren Jackson Jr., Bam Adebayo, Jalen Duren, and Walker Kessler.
