The Dallas Wings pulled off a 91-85 win over the Indiana Fever, but the basketball took a backseat to physical drama and questionable refs.
Caitlin Clark put up 10 points and 9 assists in what was a bad night, while Paige Bueckers dropped 13 points and 8 assists. The two stars actually got tangled up in the first half during a heated arm-grab exchange that landed a foul on Clark and a technical on Bueckers.
However, the breaking point came in the fourth quarter when Clark got flat-out tackled to the floor on a drive and didn’t get a whistle, leaving fans furious over the league’s consistently terrible officiating.
WNBA fans accuse the officials of missing a review during Fever vs Wings
Dallas Wings guard Odyssey Sims forcefully collided with Caitlin Clark, sending her crashing to the hardwood and holding her knee momentarily.
It’s no surprise, as Caitlin Clark has been on the receiving end of physicality ever since entering the WNBA, but it’s the lack of whistles from officials that really frustrates fans.
Many took to social media to suggest it should have been a flagrant and a review.
One fan pointed out the mistake: “This should have been reviewed.”
“The WNBA is pathetic Caitlin Clark needs to go to Europe.” Another even suggested it’s a Clark thing.
This fan even compared the tackle to the NFL: “I didn’t realize this was the NFL.”
“Wasn’t even upgraded.” Another supporter wanted more punishment.
It was also pointed out how Clark somehow had zero three throws: “CC had zero free throws.”
Under WNBA rules, a foul escalates to a Flagrant 1 for unnecessary contact or a Flagrant 2 for unnecessary and excessive contact.
Tackling or unnecessarily taking a player down by the upper body directly fits the criteria for an unsportsmanlike review, requiring refs to check for intent, impact, and safety.
