Former Falcons CB catches Josh Allen's eye at Bills camp

The Atlanta Falcons have one of the most-talented secondaries in the NFL, but they will have to get by without Dee Alford this season. The veteran defensive back signed a three-year, $15.75 million contract with the Buffalo Bills in free agency and has already made a strong impression on his new teammates.

Alford caught Bills quarterback Josh Allen's eye after intercepting the former league MVP at a recent training camp practice. When asked if he noticed defensive standouts early in camp, Allen was quick to point out Alford.

"Yeah, Dee Alford's been making a lot of plays," answered Allen, who has thrown two interceptions to the former Falcons cornerback thus far in camp.

Alford was always the most consistent player for the Falcons, but he consistently outperformed players who were brought in to take his job over during his time in Atlanta. The former undrafted free agent spent his first four NFL seasons with the Falcons, recording four interceptions and defending 37 passes over 64 games (23 starts).

Alford's versatility was arguably his best trait, playing both outside and at the nickel over the last four years. The 28-year-old operates best out of the nickel, which is where he will likely line up in Week 1 for the Bills.

WKBW sports director Matthew Bové shared the below video highlighting Alford's impact in Buffalo.

Falcons fans will remember Alford intercepting Allen during their prime-time upset over Buffalo in Week 6 of the 2025 NFL season. Apparently, the Bills liked what they saw in that game and are equally pleased with the way Alford has performed in 2026.

Atlanta will look to Billy Bowman Jr. to replace Alford this season, but the former fourth-round pick is still recovering from a torn Achilles. Darnay Holmes and rookie Avieon Terrell are next up on the depth chart for the Falcons at the nickel.
