Barca are reportedly preparing an improved offer of £55 million ($74.2 million) plus add-ons, which would bring the total bid to £60 million ($81 million). However, this still falls £10 million ($13.5 million) short of what Etihad executives are demanding for the FIFA World Cup winner, having initially indicated they wanted no less than £60 million for the midfielder.
City are aware that the pressure is now on Barça to match the asking price for a player the Spanish giants have pledged to sign.

Rodri rejected a move to fierce rivals Real Madrid in the expectation that he would be joining the La Liga champions. However, unless Barca president Joan Laporta is prepared to pay what City are demanding, the transfer will not materialize, as per the Manchester Evening News.
Rodri, 30, has entered the final 12 months of his contract at the Etihad. While he could depart City on a free transfer next summer, club executives believe £70 million represents a fair valuation for a player who remains among the finest in the world.
Rodri has now claimed the World Cup, the UEFA Euros, a Ballon d'Or, and 13 trophies with City, including the Treble, cementing his status as one of the most decorated players on the planet.
City are reportedly relaxed about the situation and are content to retain Rodri at the Etihad for at least another season, even if it results in him departing for nothing next summer. In the meantime, Rodri is expected to return to preseason training on Friday.

He has been recuperating from a back procedure he had following the World Cup. Should City reach an agreement with Barca to transfer Rodri, the Spaniard will be replaced at the Etihad, despite City having already spent £116 million ($155.2 million) on Elliot Anderson.
The club are in discussions with Lille regarding the acquisition of Ayyoub Bouaddi, but have made clear they will replace any midfield departures in addition to securing Bouaddi.
