The highly anticipated 2026 wildflower season is officially underway at West Coast National Park, with visitors able to experience the annual floral spectacle from 1 August to 30 September.

The iconic Postberg section opened to the public on Saturday, 1 August, giving visitors access to one of South Africa’s most spectacular seasonal displays.

While some flower species have appeared earlier than usual this year, SANParks says the timing, spread and intensity of the display will continue to depend on weather conditions throughout the season.
Visitors can therefore expect the landscape to change significantly over the coming weeks as more species emerge and reach peak bloom.
Thousands expected to visit
The flower season is one of West Coast National Park’s busiest periods, attracting visitors from across South Africa and internationally.
During August 2025 alone, the park welcomed more than 23 000 visitors, while the Postberg section recorded approximately 7 500 vehicle entries over the course of the flower season.
SANParks is expecting another strong turnout this year as visitors head to the park to see the colourful carpets of indigenous wildflowers.
Best time to see the flowers
Visitors hoping to get the best views are advised to plan their trips according to the weather.
Flower viewing is typically at its best on sunny days between late morning and mid-afternoon, when the flowers are fully open.
The display can vary considerably depending on rainfall, temperature and sunshine, meaning conditions may change from one week to the next.
Wildflower guide available
Visitors can also purchase the popular Spring Flowers Booklet at the Postberg entrance gate.
The guide was developed by the West Coast Region SANParks Honorary Rangers as a fundraising initiative and helps visitors identify the wide variety of wildflowers found throughout the park.
Proceeds also contribute towards conservation initiatives.
SANParks is encouraging visitors to plan ahead during the busy season and to follow its official channels for regular updates on flower conditions.
