Bucs sign safety from rookie tryout camp

The Bucs are in the middle of training camp, ramping up for their first preseason game. Despite all of that going on, roster moves are still being made as the team made their first one since camp started at the end of July.
Over the weekend, the team signed undrafted free agent Xavier Williams, a safety out of Cincinnati. The team waived cornerback Chase Lucas with a failed physical designation. The corresponding move allowed Williams to join the team's 91-man roster.

Williams had quite the college football journey over the last couple of years. As mentioned, he played at Cincinnati in 2025, but before that, he had stops at Charlotte, UCF, and Middle Tennessee State. In fact, Williams started his college career at Charlotte as a quarterback in 2022 before switching which side of the ball he wanted to make plays for.
Williams had tried out for the Bucs in their rookie camp previously.
